Farm Foundation and Flinchbaugh Center Policy Forum: Rethinking the Farm Safety Net
Tuesday, November 17, 2026, 9-11 AM EST
Via Zoom and in-person location at ArentFox Schiff LLP, Washington, DC 20006
Join us Tuesday, November 17, 2026, from 9-11 am EST in person or virtually for the November Farm Foundation and Flinchbaugh Center Policy Forum, bringing together leading experts, policymakers, agricultural leaders, and stakeholders for thoughtful, nonpartisan dialogue on critical issues shaping food and agriculture. Building on Farm Foundation’s nearly 100-year history of bringing diverse perspectives together and inspired by Dr. Barry Flinchbaugh’s legacy of informed, civil discourse, the Forum creates a space to challenge ideas, find common ground, and explore practical approaches to agricultural policy.
This Forum will focus on the evolving role of the farm safety net and where we go from here. Recent research suggests the U.S. farm safety net may be shifting from protecting producers against significant market losses to becoming embedded in the economics of agricultural production. Agricultural economists, policymakers, farm organizations, lenders, insurers, and agribusiness leaders will examine who benefits from commodity programs, crop insurance, and increasingly frequent ad hoc assistance; how government support influences land values, input costs, lending, and farm profitability; and what the purpose of the farm safety net should be from 2026 to 2050.
